PINE COURSE
First it was unusual heat that clobbered play at local golf courses. Now it’s the cold, a shivering lack of golfers at every hard-working clubhouse. But neither the heat nor cold nor anything else would deter Phil Hayton from the second-most cherished honor in the game: an eagle on the first hole, at the Pine Course. Hayton whacked the course with his driver and then pulled out an 8-iron to collect a deuce at the 310-yard hole.

The third-most-cherished honor went to Gordon Patrick, when this gentleman stuffed the Pine Course for a 74, a number far less than his age.
