Dameon Keon James was driving in St. Augustine in August 2012 when he pulled up next to a woman at an intersection and asked for directions.

As the woman spoke to him, another Palm Coast man, Casey Scott Haworth, ran up behind her and attacked her with a stun gun. The woman ran away screaming, leaving her purse, keys and cell phone behind.

Haworth snatched the keys and jumped into the car James drove and they sped away. A nearby police officer witnessed the robbery and followed them. James fled from the vehicle, leaving Haworth behind.

James was later identified by witnesses and through a search of Haworth’s phone.

A St. Johns County jury on Aug. 27 found James guilty of principal to false imprisonment, accessory after the fact to false imprisonment, principal to aggravated battery, accessory after the fact to aggravated battery and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, according to Klare Ly, public information officer for the State Attorney’s Office.

Because he could not be legally sentenced as both a principal perpetrator and an accessory to the crime, James was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years of probation on the charges of principal to false imprisonment, principal to aggravated battery and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

Haworth was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. He is also being tried in St. Johns County, and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for October.
