Among the many activities offered at the library is a new, monthly Game Day, run by board-game enthusiasts called the Tabletop Masters.

"People think about Monopoly, Sorry, Life — but they don't know how many games are out there," said Darien Tucker, who drove all the way from New Smyrna Beach on Feb. 7 to attend the group. "If there's a hobby that needs awareness, this is it."

Palm Coast resident Anna Nevod participated in the first session of Game Day at the Flagler County Library about six months ago. At that time, it was only for Yu-Gi-Oh!, but now it has expanded to include all board games, which are provided by Nevod. She owns 84 games, she said, and her son, Matthew, reviews games on a YouTube channel.

Boardgamegeek.com lists over 75,000 ranked board games, with hundreds being added each year.

It’s a hobby that can be a good alternative for kids or adults who like video games. At Game Day, “you get a chance to interact meaningfully and challenge yourself,” Nevod wrote in an email. “I believe we all like to solve problems. It's human nature, and games let us do that in an infinite number of ways.”

Game Day is open to all ages, including families, at 10 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month. Interested adults can contact the group through meetup.com; search for the group, “Tabletop Masters.”
