The Grand Club has tossed a knockout blow that may vault the Pine and Cypress courses into the lead of golf memberships in Palm Coast.
With golf courses everywhere struggling because of the economy, the private Grand Club has pulled the trigger on a plan that has already brought forth a large response from former and new members. And there will be more — many more. For now and the future, cost of membership has been reduced to $99 per month. Since this is a monthly affair, the amount starting in May will total $792 for this year.
The new membership has no initiation fees, unlimited green fees, dining privileges and tee times up to seven days in advance.

Palm Harbor, a city-owned course, is clearly the course that took Palm Coast by storm and it has had a dominating effect on memberships elsewhere.
For the thousands of us in Palm Cost who love the game of golf, this is news that rocks the cradle.

Paolucci repeats
Defending champ Lou Paolucci nipped Rick McArdle at the wire in Grand Haven Club championships, a terrific golf show that will not soon be forgotten. The pair was all even when Paolucci sealed the deal with birdie on No. 14.
Joan Callahan ran away with the women’s title, shooting a 168 for the two-day event.
Gary Freeman remembered
The news that Gary Freeman, a popular golf coach at Bethune-Cookman, passed away, was stunning. He was too young, and it was not his time.
Freeman was the head pro at Palm Harbor when I, along with thousands of others, first came to Palm Coast, and he was a delight to know from Day 1. To say that he was special is putting it mildly.
The Lord doesn’t make many Gary Freemans, and it’s a shame that the count is now one less.

I’m so proud and pleased to offer an expanded Golf Chips for local area golfers on the Internet. It will be stories and fun, including personalized golf scoring and will feature a wide range of topics. As most of my friends know, I love to roam with the language of golf and for the thousands of nice people who play it.
