Future Problem Solvers qualifies for states

Students from Flagler County Schools participated in the Future Problem Solving International Program District Bowl Thursday, Feb 10.

Teams and individuals were given a written description of a scene from the future involving genetic testing technology. They had two hours to brainstorm possible challenges, choose one important challenge for which they developed possible solutions, and write a plan of action for carrying out one of those solutions.

Winners received an invitation to compete at the Affiliate Bowl in Port Canaveral next month.

The winning teams from Flagler County Schools include Flagler Palm Coast High School’s senior division (grades 10 to 12): first place, Myla Marks, Turrell Matthews, Adrianna Laforest and Savanah Goerlich; second place: Riley Shugg, Kaitlyn Gore, Ryan McDermott and Brittany Eggum; third place: Joseph Alter, Matt Cabral, Gabe Martinez and CollinDonahue; fourth place: Lorenzo Butler, Tracey Adams, Brad Spivey and Caitiln Hanhnan; and sixth place: Jennifer Henry, Hailey Martin, Andrew Kenper and Hallie Hydrick.

From Flagler Palm Coast High School’s middle division (grades 7 – 9), first place: Kerry Norberg, Ben Jones, Olga Nushtayeva, Forrest Mason; second place: Antonio Holm, Tyler Jarnagin, Daniel Gerhard, Michael Safarty; third place: Loren Smith-Andersen, Alexandra Mason, Louis Cordero and Rebecca Rawls; and fifth place: Miranda Kuleski, Maha Muneer, Tristan Perez and Andrew Kenny.

From Matanzas High School’s senior division, seventh place: Jasmine Perez, Stephanie Biscocho, Megan Lowe and Savanna Carnevale.

From Buddy Taylor Middle School’s middle division (grades 7 to 9), Nathan Hubbs, Noelle Tirado, Hannah Umpenhour and Abigail Brooks.

Individual participants from Buddy Taylor’s junior division (grades 4 to 6): Austin Berry, Mauve Dinen and Joseph Bowes.

From Indian Trails Middle School’s middle division fourth place: Gene Calina, Jesse Lambright, Briana Rodriguez, and Riley Lampert.
