Flagler Palm Coast offensive lineman Verneal Henshaw verbally committed to Georgia Southern University on Wednesday, July 25. Georgia Southern is a Division I school located in Statesboro that competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

The Eagles had a down year in 2017. They went 2-10 and lost six in-conference games. Their previous head coach, Tyson Summers, was fired after starting the season 0-6. He was replaced by assistant coach Chad Lunsford, who is now the official head coach of the team.

Henshaw — a 6-foot-4, 270-pound rising senior — held offers from several other schools in addition to Georgia Southern, including Florida Atlantic, Coastal Carolina and Tulane.

Henshaw will join his sisters in their family's Division I tradition. Jasmine Henshaw played basketball at Eastern Kentucky, and Tamara Henshaw just completed her second year on South Florida's girls basketball team.
