FPC, Matanzas wrestling win districts, off regionals

District champs: Bulldogs advance 12 to regionals

Twelve of Flagler Palm Coast’s 14 wrestlers advanced to the regional tournament after placing in the District 1-3A tournament last weekend.

As a team, the Bulldogs captured the district title, capping off an undefeated regular season.

Alfred Shavers, Justin Boyle and Jonathan Muniz all took first place in their respective weight classes. Zac Branning, Jake Kosachiner, Evyn Insalaco, Kaz Maia, Jackson Trivett and Jake Dempsey finished second.

Tariq Johnson, Korey Bryl and Devonte Woods finished third.

FPC wrestling will continue its dream season Feb. 7-8, in the regional tournament, to be held at FPC.

Wrestling: Pirates capture district title, advance 13

The Matanzas wrestling team brought 13 wrestlers to the district tournament last week. All 13 have advanced to the regional tournament.

The Pirates captured the district title along the way, too.

Carter Goodman, Chad Samples, Troy Magnuson and Clayton Dennis all won their weight classes. Rocky Samples, Jordan Castanheira, Maverick Dennis and Greg Torres finished second.

Jessy Moseley and Cody Womack placed fourth, while Blane Stefancik, Eddy Cruz, Nathan Pooler placed fourth.

The regional tournament will be Feb. 7-8, at Chiles High School, in Tallahassee.
