Florida Hospital Flagler received an early Christmas present Dec. 9, when two Flagler Palm Coast High School girls lacrosse players stopped by.
Nicole Madalena, 16, and Katia Zintchenko, 15, dropped off a $200 donation for the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund, which directly supports women by providing screening mammograms, diagnostic studies and education to qualified individuals who are uninsured and seeking assistance.
“We wanted more people to take action on helping to fight breast cancer,” Zintchenko said.
Madalena added that the entire varsity girls lacrosse team worked together to raise money and awareness for women battling breast cancer.
“We made T-shirts representing our team and supporting breast cancer,” Madalena said. “Throughout October, we sold the T-shirts for $8, and ended up raising $200.”
John Subers, Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation and Marketing director, was moved by the generous spirit of the two players.
“These teenagers made a real difference in the lives of our neighbors, friends and family members, as their contributions will help women within our community get the lifesaving mammograms they need,” Subers said.
