Coach Javier Bevacqua enters his fourth season with Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs.

The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs basketball team lost in the regional quarterfinals of the Class 6A state playoffs last season.

Lady Bulldogs coach Javier Bevacqua is back for his fourth season. And after losing two school record-setters to graduation, he’s ready to help this year’s team create its own legacy.

Ty’Neka Addison, who scored almost 1,700 points in her four-year career, and Desirea Hurley, the sharpshooter who drained 101 3-pointers last season, both graduated after leading last year’s team to a 21-8 record — the best record in FPC girls basketball history.

Bevacqua has led the Lady Bulldogs to a 53-25 record for the past three seasons. The Lady Bulldogs will compete in Class 8A this season.

Bevacqua has a new group, and this year’s team must focus more on defense after losing its two prolific scorers.

This year’s team includes senior Diajah Davis, who averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds last season. Freshman Armani Walker will also see ample playing time.

Bevacqua said Walker has played exceptional ball throughout the past few years on her AAU travel team.

Everything starts with defense, however. FPC will play a man-to-man defense.

“We will be a defense-first team trying to grind out every possession,” Bevacqua said, adding that the offense will be a run-and-gun, high-tempo style.

“We’re young and inexperienced, but we’re hungry to learn,” he said.
