Four Flagler students were expelled by the School Board June 5, through consent items on its meeting agenda. A breakdown of each expulsion is listed as follows:

• An Indian Trails Middle School student was expelled after selling marijuana to another student on school grounds. For the remainder of the year, the student will be provided work to complete all core courses, and will also be registered for home-schooling for the first term of the 2013 school year.

The student may reenter school, into Pathways Academy, in January of next year, pending a drug test.

• A 15-year-old female student was expelled after attacking another student from behind on a moving bus. Before the fight, the attacker also asked a third student to record the conflict on video.

According to School Board staff, the victim had previously tried to pass the attacker to sit in the back of the bus, but the attacker refused to let her sit. When the victim returned to the bus’ front, the attacker handed her mobile device to a another student and requested he start taping. The attacker then snuck up behind the victim, crouched between the seats and then abruptly began striking the victim in the back of the head.

After the dispute had been broken up, the attacker asked the third student if the event had been captured on taped.

The student’s family is currently enrolling her in another program, with intentions to enter her into Job Corps when she turns 16 in December.

The expulsion expires January 17, 2013. Reentry would be through Pathways Academy, contingent on counseling during the expulsion term.

• A Flagler Palm Coast High School student was expelled after intentionally lighting paper towels on fire in the school’s bathroom. The day prior, the student was found with lighters on campus and ignored warnings never to bring them to school again.

The student will complete coursework vitually for the two courses he is currently passing; grades will not be received for the other five he is failing.

The student will be eligible for reentry into school in August 2013, into Pathways Academy, pending drug screening.

• A female student was expelled for one full year beginning August 2012 for starting a verbal confrontation, which escalated to a violent alteration, with another student on a school bus.

When a teacher attempted to separate the two students, the attacker wrapped her hand into the hair of the victim and continued to throw punches while the teacher was between them. During the fight, the teacher was hit in the face by the student.

Until the student’s suspension begins, she has been suspended through the end of this school year.
