Former Bunnell police chief Arthur Jones dies at 61

Former Bunnell police chief Arthur Jones died unexpectedly Oct. 8. He was 61.

Jones served as chief from November 2008 to April 2012 before retiring, according to a city of Bunnell news release.

Before becoming police chief in Bunnell, Jones spent 32 years in the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

In his time as a policeman, he was a patrolman, field training officer, school resource practitioner and a detective investigating robbery, violent crimes and homicide.

After his retirement, Jones stayed involved with the Bunnell and Palm Coast communities, the Alliance of Involved Ministers and his church.

UPDATE Oct. 17, from Dan Parham, chairman of the Flagler County Democratic Party:

"Chief Jones was the first African-American police chief of the city of Bunnell. His ready smile will be sorely missed. We extend our condolences to his family and may he rest in peace."

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
