Deputies had arrived at a home on Avocado Boulevard in Bunnell that morning to serve a felony warrant for suspect Anthony Petrillo, 31, who was wanted for a Violation of Drug Probation for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Resisting Officers without Violence in 2020.

Petrillo had a history of violence, resisting arrest, and weapon possession.

At the home, deputies spoke with with Petrillo's mother, who said that Petrillo did not want to come outside.

A K9 deputy at the door ordered Petrillo to come out of the house and warned him that he'd be bitten if he didn't comply.

Petrillo finally came out the back door, said he didn’t have a warrant, and then ran back into the home.

Deputies kicked in the door as Petrillo attempted to run, then turned and charged at deputies.

FCSO K9 Axle caught Petrillo, who fell to the ground. The dog latched onto Petrillo's shoulder, holding him as deputies handcuffed him.

“K9 Axle quickly took a bite out of crime and put a quick end to his attempt to avoid arrest," Sheriff Rick Staly said. "He’s been in and out of our jail and has not learned that if you resist, be prepared to be bit!”

Petrillo has a criminal history in Flagler County dating back to 2020.

He’s previously been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resist Officer with Violence, Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Possession of Fentanyl, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He also has been arrested throughout north and central Florida for Grand Theft, narcotics-related charges, and multiple felony assault charges.

Petrillo is facing new charges for Resisting Officers without Violence, Escape, and Violation of Probation. He had two active felony warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He’s now at the county jail on no bond.
