Flagler's 14.9% unemployment highest in state

Flagler County’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February 2011 is 14.9%, according to the numbers released March 25 by the Agency for Workforce Innovation. Flagler is the highest county in the state for the second month in a row.

The jobless rate in Flagler County was 16%, though it was seasonally adjusted, according to Rick Fraser, president of the Center for Business Excellence. February 2010’s rate was 15.6%.

Hendry County has the state’s No. 2 rate at 13.9%. There are 43 counties in the state with double-digit unemployment rates in February, down from 52 in January.

The metropolitan statistical area of Palm Coast continues to rank No. 1 with the state’s highest unemployment at 14.9%.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February 2011 is 11.5%, down 0.4% from January.

“This decrease in Florida’s unemployment rate, combined with continued job growth, is welcome news and provides additional evidence that our economy is getting back on track,” said Agency for Workforce Innovation Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo.
