Flagler County’s competitive paramedic team has once again won a world title in international competition at the prestigious Rallye Rejviz, in the Czech Republic.

Word was received the weekend of May 31 that the Flagler County team took first place in the three-day competition. The team also took first in the competition in 2009, and a second time in 2010. The team was the only representative from the United States that competed in the invitation-only competition.

Flagler competed against teams from Austria, Belgium, Britain, Germany Hungary, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Turkey.

“Not only is this exciting news for the team and Flagler County, it is proof of the world-class service Flagler County residents receive when they need an ambulance. We are proud of the Flagler County team and their accomplishments,” Flagler County Administrator Craig Coffey said.

Flagler County Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito said the experience gained by the competition team boosts the training and professionalism of all the paramedics working and training with Flagler County.

“They bring back the skills and strategies they learn in competition and share it with the paramedics they work with on a daily basis,” Petito said.

This year’s Flagler County Competition Team includes Dennis Kline, Mike Pius, Caryn Prather and Jesse Hunter. The team raises its own funds to travel and compete.

After winning several smaller competitions, the team took first place in a national competition in 2008 against much larger teams from New York, Omaha and Kansas City. The next year they were invited to the Rallye Rejviz.
