One week before hosting a 24-hour EMS competition on Oct. 1 and 2 at Flagler’s Hilton Garden Inn, Flagler County’s EMS Competition Team took second place in the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps (BAC) EMS Competition.

First place went to another Florida team, Boca Raton Fire/Rescue. Flagler won every individual scenario except one, which Boca earned enough points from to win overall.

Teams are scored off of a prearranged check system based on team safety, patient assessment and individual skills used to treat a patient.

The competition also consisted of two teams from the Fire Department of New York, two teams from Jefferson County and an exchange team from China. All participants used personal money, leave, and sponsorship donations in order to travel and compete.

BAC’s emergency services Coordinator Shawn Catchart will serve as judge at Flagler County’s 24-Hour Competition this weekend.

“We have a good working relationship with various EMS coordinators from all over the nation,” said Dennis Kline, Flagler team leader. “These relationships allow us to pull from a large pool of experienced EMS providers and increases the quality of judging. “
