Samantha Whitfield graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 1996 and joined the Air Force as a munitions specialist in 1998. She was responsible for the expert, safe and efficient handling, storing, transporting, arming and disarming of air to air missiles, air to ground missiles, bombs and other aircraft munitions that play a key role in the lethality of U.S. Air Force aircraft. She deployed in support of Operation Unified Protector, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Southern Watch, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her favorite assignment was in Aviano, Italy. Among her many awards and decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. She is the mother of two daughters and is presently the risk control manager for the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners.
