County Administrator Craig Coffey announced Monday, April 18, that he has received word from George Lovett, of the Florida Department of Transportation, that FDOT is pulling out of the Flagler Beach sea wall project.

“(They’re) going to be withdrawing the project for now,” Coffey said “… putting the project on hold.”

Regardless of whether this postponement ultimately leads to a full cancellation, Coffey said, “(right now) it means they’re not building … It’s a non-issue ...”

In light of the postponement, he suggested withholding the initial opposition letter the county was preparing in explanation of its stance on the wall. It was decided that the commission would send a “thank you” letter to FDOT and attach a revised version of their existing letter, to ensure that their stance on the issue is fully understood.
