A sewer force main buried about 4 feet below ground level at the intersection of South 22nd Street and Daytona Avenue burst on Dec. 10, spilling about 10,000 gallons of wastewater, according to a city of Flagler Beach news release.
The rupture of the 10-inch steel sewer main occurred at about 5 a.m., and city of Flagler Beach staff responded and began repairs within 30 minutes.
They vacuumed up the sewage and applied lime to the area, and none of the spilled wastewater reached the nearby Intracoastal Waterway, according to the news release.
City staff finished repairs on the force main by 2 p.m., "with minimal sanitary service interruption to the public," according to the news release.
"The city apologizes for any inconvenience to residents in the affected area," the news release stated.
The city notified Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Flagler County Health Department of the spill.
