The Flagler Beach Police Department has released a video public service announcement called "Hide it, Lock it or Lose it,” warning residents about car break-ins.
Car break-ins are a common crime, and thieves often steal bags, purses, wallets, phones and other valuables that were left in plain view, sometimes in unlocked cars.
"The goal of the new video PSA is to create public awareness and help reduce the likelihood of our citizens becoming victims of car break-ins. ... Car break-ins are crimes of opportunity that can occur in just a few seconds," according to a Flagler Beach Police Department news release.
The video urges residents to keep valuables out of sight and lock their cars.
Flagler Beach Police Officer Kevin Pineda wrote, directed and edited the video with help from students at Full Sail University in Winter Haven, Florida, according to the news release.
