Flagler Beach will reopen the city pier at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 5, in conjunction with Phase 2 of the state of Florida's reopening program, according to a news release from the city government.

The bait shop on the pier will also reopen, as will picnic tables on the boardwalk.

The pier will be open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and only 50 people will be allowed on at one time.

"Social distancing guidelines on the pier are highly recommended," the news release states, and visitors are asked to distance themselves from other parties by at least 6 feet.

The bait shop will be "take-out only," according to the news release.

“We recognize the importance of opening the Flagler Beach pier, as well as the picnic areas on the boardwalk," Florida Department of Health-Flagler Administrator Bob Snyder said, according to the news release. "We support the decision to open the pier in a manner that emphasizes social distancing and other public health best practices”

Beach use

The beaches in Flagler Beach remain open 24/7 and are monitored by law enforcement for social distancing. They are no always monitored by lifeguards, so "all swimming is done at your own risk," the news release states.

Beaches may be accessed only through designated dune walkover points, as the dunes themselves are fragile.

Beach fishing and pet walking on the beach is allowed only north of Tenth Street North and south of Tenth Street South, according to the news release.

Free parking

Handicapped parking and beach access is available just north of the pier, at South Second Street and State Road A1A.

Additional free parking lots that are within one block of the beach include:

  • 311 North Central Ave
  • 109 North Fifth Street
  • 504 South Oceanshore Boulevard (at South Sixth Street and S.R. A1A)
  • 118 South Eighth Street
