Flagler Beach narrows choice of fire captains to two

Flagler Beach has narrowed its search for a fire department captain to two finalists, and City Manager Bruce Campbell expects to make a hiring decision before Thanksgiving.

The two candidates are Robert D. Pace, the current acting chief for the city's fire department, and Brandon K. Seymour, a firefighter and EMT from St. Augustine.

Pace was charged with obstruction of justice in July after another firefighter accused him of falsifying community service records for a probationer.

The state has since dropped those charges, and Pace became the city's acting fire chief after a scandal about alcoholic beverages sold at the fire station resulted in the firing of Chief Martin Roberts and Assistant Chief Shane Wood.

A third candidate for the position, Sean T. Crofutt, withdrew his application before a Nov. 14 public meet-and-greet with the candidates, Campbell said.
