The Flagler Auditorium extension project team is still working to find a contractor to build the renovation of new restrooms and office spaces with the grant given by the state.

While Flagler Auditorium Director Lisa McDevitt and local architect Joseph Pozzuoli spoke over the phone with state officials in Tallahassee, leading to a voice agreement, the state is holding off on a written agreement for grant funding until Flagler Schools finds a contractor for this project and signs an agreement with them.

At the School Board agenda workshop on July 11, Kristy Gavin of Flagler Schools noted that the district would only sign an agreement with the contractors if it’s marked that construction would be contingent on the grant money coming through from the state.

“We’re going out to bid late September and giving [the contractors] until November for construction to begin,” Pozzuoli said.

McDevitt said the team has redone its plans with the goal of not closing during construction. Volusia County has provided a list of contractors for McDevitt to contact in the hopes of finding one that’ll bid on the project.

“If there’s a will, there’s a way,” McDevitt said.
