Nine former Palm Coast Little League players, who played and won in the league’s first championship, returned to the mound to receive scholarships at a ceremony on Saturday April 25, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.
Flagler Palm Coast’s Danny Curley (did not attend), Brett Cain, Will DeAugustino, Barrett Manfre, Sam Colasanti, and Matanzas’ Donovan Brady, Braedon Ward, Anthony Colasanti, Mike Mohamed and Matthew Esposito each received a $500 scholarship from Palm West Home Realty, Palm Coast Little League and other anonymous donors.
“On behalf of all the guys, I’m sure I can say that moments out here are some of the most memorable that we’ll cherish forever,” said Braeden Ward. “I would also like to thank Mr. Fred [Lewers] and the other sponsors who are helping us pay for college. It is truly an honor to have received this, and it’s much appreciated.”
After the ceremony, the guys took pictures with their families and shared memories from their historic 2011 Little League campaign, which included beating a team 24-0 in the second inning and winning it all 7-5. Lewers, was also selected as Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011.
"Thanks to Fred for starting Palm Coast Little and the scholarship I received today," Colasanti said. "Playing for the Palm Coast Little League me the foundation to excel to become a part of the district baseball champions with FPC. The ceremony brought back memories of playing the game with my teammates that I will cherish forever."
