A fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Eagles Nest Storage, on State Road 100, causing major damage to three units and affecting five units, according to Flagler Beach Fire Chief Martin Roberts.

Roberts said when firefighters arrived on the scene, they couldn’t determine what was actually burning and what was smoke.

"(The crew) opened three units completely and started removing stuff and fighting the fire with water,” Roberts said Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Roberts said. However, according to eyewitnesses, the fire may have been started in a unit where a vehicle was being worked on.

Roberts said crews will be on scene over the next few hours continuing the “rehabilitation” of the damaged area.
