A fire ripped through a W Section house the afternoon of July 26, killing a pet cat and destroying the home.

City and county firefighters were dispatched to the house on Whittle Place at about 4 p.m., according to the Palm Coast Fire Department.

The homeowner had heard a loud bang in the garage, then opened the garage door and saw the whole garage on fire, and called the Fire Department.

"When [firefighters] arrived on scene, they had heavy fire and heavy smoke," Fire Public Information Officer Patrick Juliano said.

Three people in the house got out with a dog and a pet cat before fire crews arrived, but a second cat died, and the house was a total loss.

The city called the Red Cross to assist the displaced family.

Responding units were Ladder 25, Engine 21, Engine 22 and the Fire Police from the Palm Coast Fire Department; and Engine 92, Rescue 21 and Rescue 62 from Flagler County Fire Rescue.
