A fire at the Palm Coast Elks lodge on the morning of Oct. 9 burned through the lodge’s electrical system and coated the building’s interior with smoke, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

“The whole electrical grid is gone. The panels, the breakers, everything,” lodge spokeswoman Jeannie Fontana said.

Firefighters contained the fire at the lodge at 53 Old Kings Road N. quickly, and no one was hurt. The fire was an accidental electrical fire, but investigators haven’t yet told the lodge its exact cause, Fontana said.

“There was a lot of smoke damage. Not a lot of fire, but a lot of smoke,” she said. “The soot covered everything in the lodge, and everything stinks.”

A restoration company is working to clean it out.

Meanwhile, the lodge will be closed for at least a month for repairs, and about two dozen members of the lodge’s wait staff are out of work as organizations that had planned events at the facility reschedule elsewhere, Fontana said.

“Everybody had their fingers crossed and is chomping at the bit to get in there and get it open again,” she said.
