At a special meeting Tuesday, March 1, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners selected Art Barr and James Ulsamer to serve as the Flagler County citizen-at-large representatives on behalf of the county at this weekend’s economic development summit.

The summit will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 4, and again from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service Auditorium, 150 Sawgrass Road. If needed, a third meeting has been tentatively scheduled for March 18. The task is to improve economic development efforts through a joint comprehensive plan specific to the entire community.

The meeting was originally planned to take place at the Flagler County Association of Realtors building but because of the number of people who will be in attendance, it was relocated.

Elected officials from all five city governments in the county, as well as the School Board and the County Commission will be in attendance. Each government entity appointed two citizens-at-large to represent them in the discussion. Also, two representatives each from Enterprise Flagler, The Flagler County Association of Realtors, The Homebuilders Association, SCORE and the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates will be in attendance.

Don Upton from Fairfield Index Inc., of Tampa, was hired to facilitate the discussion. Upton has worked with a range of clients from IBM to economic and business development organizations like Broward Alliance, Enterprise Florida, and the Central Florida Partnership. He will direct the discussion and present a finding that will result in an action plan to the group at the March 18 meeting on. The price tag for the meeting, if it goes all three days, is estimated to be about $22,000.

In addition to Ulsamer and Barr, other citizens-at-large appointed:

Bunnell: Mark Langello and Sam Cline
Flagler Beach: Teri Pruden and Joseph Puzzuoli,
Palm Coast: Rich Smith and John Walsh
Beverly Beach: James Ardell and Lance Berry
