To fence, or not to fence? That is the question that will be discussed 6:30 p.m. tonight, April 27, at the cafeteria at Rymfire Elementary School.
Residents of the R-section near Ralph Carter Park have petitioned the City Council to erect a fence between the park and the homes along Richardson Drive, where many incidents have been reported of trespassing and worse.
Marion Petruzzi, leader of the Neighborhood Watch in the area, has been the most vocal in support of a fence, and City Council member Frank Meeker recently indicated he could support a fence, as well.
Sheriff Donald Fleming has indicated that he does not believe a fence would solve the problems.
Tuesday night, Petruzzi sent this email to the City Council:
“I am sitting here writing this email at my kitchen table, shaking. My home was attached this evening at around 6:15 p.m. (It was still daylight when this all happened.)
“What will it take for you people to get a fence along Ralph Carter Park!!!”
Petruzzi wrote that a large group of white and black individuals were “running all over our front lawn and down our driveway.” Then, she heard a loud noise; she said her husband witnessed one of the individuals run up the driveway and kick a dent in the garage door.
She said one of her neighbors reported that another person threw a grapefruit at his cat.
She continued: “I will ask you all the same question I asked you at the City Council meeting April 5: Would any of you like to live in my neighborhood?????”
