The International Association of Chiefs of Police have announced the winners of the 2020 IACP Leadership Awards, and this year the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has been selected for two prestigious awards.

These are the first awards the FCSO has ever received from the IACP.

The FCSO was chosen as the winner in two categories: the IACP Excellence in Traffic Safety Award and the IACP Leadership in Victim Services Award – Midsize Agency.

“I want to congratulate everyone that were a part of the success that earned our agency these prestigious awards. It was a team effort and at the FCSO we have an amazing team,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “There are over 19,000 police agencies and over 3,000 sheriff’s offices in America alone, and your Sheriff’s Office was selected over our peers for not one but two of these international awards! I congratulate and applaud the great men and women we have serving the community, in and out of uniform, that worked hard to receive this recognition. Great work, team!”

The IACP Excellence in Traffic Safety Award recognizes organizations that excel in the field of traffic safety.

The FCSO has diligently worked to make the roads in Flagler County safer through education, prevention and enforcement. As a result, traffic fatalities in Flagler County were down 67% from 2017 through 2019.

The IACP Leadership in Victim Services Award recognizes law enforcement agencies that demonstrate excellence in providing innovative services to crime victims by successfully integrating current best practices of enhanced victim response into all facets of the organization.

The FCSO believes in an organizational philosophy that places the victims at the center of problem-solving efforts by utilizing effective partnerships, training methods, and performance monitoring tools to enhance response to victims of crime.

Specifically, the FCSO was recognized for its interdisciplinary response to domestic violence, which has resulted in significant reductions in domestic violence and repeat offenders.

The IACP is the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders.

With more than 31,000 members in over 165 countries, the IACP is recognized as a leader in global policing and is committed to advancing safer communities through thoughtful, progressive police leadership.

Since 1893, the association has been serving communities worldwide by speaking out on behalf of law enforcement and advancing leadership and professionalism in policing worldwide. Sheriff Staly is a life member of the IACP.
