Public Affairs Officer, Flagler County Sheriff's Office

As the holidays are approaching, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is focusing on enforcement, education, and awareness within Flagler County to deter impaired driving, crashes, speeding, aggressive driving, and crimes of opportunity.

“Safety is our number one priority, and we are working hard to keep our residents and visitors safe this holiday season,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you plan to drink, don’t plan to drive. Plan for a sober ride home. Our patrol deputies will be actively looking for impaired drivers. Driving impaired is dangerous and comes with serious consequences. Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.”

In addition to responding to calls for service, the FCSO patrol, motor, bicycle, and DUI units will have increased countywide presence for the remainder of 2019. The Traffic Unit will have traffic enforcement operations at high crash locations to deter speeding and running of red lights. Some "special holiday visitors" are assisting this holiday season to keep the roads of Flagler County safe.

Patrol deputies and the Bike Unit will be monitoring high traffic areas as well as businesses with the goal of reducing and preventing holiday crimes of opportunity. Deputies will remind citizens to lock their car doors and hide valuables, be aware of their surroundings and stay alert, and never leave a purse, wallet, or cell phone unattended inside a vehicle or shopping cart. Only park in disabled spaces if you are handicapped. Spaces are limited and the parking lots are crowded this time of year. Plus, it’s against the law.

DUI Units will be enforcing sober driving every weekend through the remainder of 2019. Message boards will also be displayed throughout the county with the message “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and the Sheriff’s Taxi Patrol car will be visible in various locations.
