On Nov. 2, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the P-section of Palm Coast for a report of fraud. The victim stated she thought she lost her debit card and received a notification from her bank that her card was used twice at two local stores.

Deputies responded to the stores where the card was used and were able to identify a suspect as the male who bought gift cards. FCSO Detectives received surveillance footage from both stores and it was confirmed to be the same suspect in both incidents.

Detectives worked with FCSO’s Real Time Crime Center to locate an individual matching the suspect’s description riding a bicycle near the stores during the time the crimes occurred. An agency-wide “Attempt to Identify” was released, asking deputies to patrol the areas where the suspect often frequents.

On Nov. 10, deputies responded to the area of Royal Palms and Rymfire Drive about a suspicious person. Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed a white male who was identified as the same suspect in the prior fraudulent activity. The suspect was questioned and advised he does not own a credit card but was given one by an acquaintance named “Dave.” The suspect acknowledged he used the card to make purchases at CVS and Walgreen’s but continued to claim “Dave” asked him to do it. According to the suspect, “Dave” told him, “I need you to do this for me and I will hook you up, I will bless you. Go get these gift cards for my wife and I will give you 50 bucks.” The suspect stated he did what he was told and returned the credit card to “Dave” at a nearby Circle K.

“This is another example on why if you see something to say something,” Sheriff Staly said. "I’m not sure if he ever got his blessing but he did get a trip to the Green Roof Inn.”

The suspect is no stranger to local law enforcement. He’s previously been arrested in Flagler County for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Improper Exhibition of Firearm, and Simple Assault.

The suspect was arrested for Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without incident. He’s being held on a $2,500 bond.
