A group of about 50 adults and children from Epic Church traveled Saturday, Feb. 19, to Palatka, to glean leftover citrus from a farmers’ grove.

Epic Church partnered with the Society of St. Andrew to glean the citrus, which would otherwise have been wasted. One major area of food waste in America is in farmers’ fields, where crops that don’t meet top-grade quality are left in the fields.

The group filled two pickup trucks full of fresh citrus that was delivered to food pantries, shelters and families in need, in Flagler County.

The Society of St. Andrew works to bridge the hunger gap between the 96 billion pounds of food wasted every year in the U.S., and the 35 million Americans who live in poverty.
