Many residents were saddened when Flagler Beach Wine and Cheese closed up, but now, that space has been filled with a new sub shop.

Kahuna Surf Subs, 109 S. Sixth St., Flagler Beach, opened last week with a menu of not your typical sandwiches. Menu items include specialty subs, such as Bahn Mi and the Italian Beef and Shrimp Po Boy, while the traditional cold subs took on surf names, like the Spicoli and the Hodad.

Owner Casey Lee said he's just following in his family's footsteps. His mom owns the Waffle Cone. Lee plans to expand the menu and hours of the shop after Bike Week. For now, it was just about opening the doors.

For now, hours of operation are 11 a.m,. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends. Call 793-7827.
