Drunk driver crashes into parked Flagler County tractor, sending county employee to the hospital

The tractor, a county-owned Caterpillar, was totaled.

A drunk driver was arrested on Oct. 17 after he drove off North Old Dixie Highway and crashed into a parked tractor along the side of the road in Flagler County, about seven miles north of Espanola. The tractor operator, a county Public Works Department employee, was thrown from the tractor and injured his hip and dislocated his shoulder. He was driven to the hospital in an ambulance.

The tractor, a county-owned Caterpillar, was totaled, according to County Administrator Jerry Cameron.

The drunk driver was Jason Keith Akins, 34, of Hastings. He was charged with a misdemeanor: driving under the influence and causing property damage or bodily injury.
