On Friday, Sept. 17, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that was traveling almost 20 miles per hour over the speed limit. The driver, Andrew Jones, was later arrested on drug and weapons charges after he attempted to flee from deputies.

Deputies stopped the vehicle for speeding on North State Street in Bunnell, and the driver identified himself as Andrew Jones claimed he was driving his girlfriend's car but did not have any of the required documents, including his driver’s license. While deputies were conducting the traffic stop, the vehicle and driver fled.

During the initial traffic stop, deputies had noticed the vehicle had a distinct smell of marijuana and located a white tube in the passenger seat that had a red marking on it labeled “THC” on the initial traffic stop.

Deputies again attempted to stop Jones Junior but he continued driving recklessly on Royal Palms Parkway. Eventually, StopSticks were deployed forcing Jones to stop. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted and Jones Junior was apprehended by deputies. Deputies then conducted a search of his vehicle and located a firearm, three pieces of marijuana weighing less than one gram, a glass pipe, and a red grinder with marijuana residue.

“It is such a shame to see people who think they can run from our deputies,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “In this case, he took a minor infraction and made it a lot worse. Fortunately, no one was hurt by his poor decisions. You can’t run and you can’t hide because we will find you and take you to the Green Roof Inn!”

Andrew Jones was arrested and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He was arrested for Possession of Marijuana - 20 Grams of less, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Equipment, Resisting an Officer without Violence, Reckless Driving, and Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer. He is being held on a $5,500 bond.
