A man well known to law enforcement was arrested on Saturday, Sept. 15, after fleeing from the scene of a crash in Palm Coast, according to a news release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a crash at Palm Coast Parkway NW and Pine Lakes Parkway at 12:59 p.m. Saturday. The crash was between an SUV and a blue truck. The truck fled the scene, and additional 911 class reported the truck "driving crazy" and speeding. Deputies found the truck crashed along the wood line on Old Kings Road, where the suspect fled into the woods.

The driver was identified as 37-year-old Jonathan DeMartino, of Palm Coast, whose previous encounters with deputies include grand theft, shoplifting and assault.

DeMartino fled from the crash carrying what looked like new hand tools and other items. Deputies believed the items were stolen from Home Depot. Upon contacting Home Depot, loss prevention staff confirmed the items were stolen from the store just prior to the original crash he fled from. The items were valued at $1,196.

DeMartino was found by deputies at his residence and arrested. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and property damage, and grand theft. He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond.
