A 19-year-old who was arrested by Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly himself two weeks ago for reckless driving has been arrested again after hitting a parked truck and a fire hydrant and fleeing the scene of the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office. He's also been charged with cocaine possession.
“Two weeks ago I arrested him for driving recklessly, but I guess he didn’t learn his lesson,” Staly said in a news release. “Now he’s taking another ride to the Green Roof Inn. I hope he gets the drug help he needs and the courts throw the book at him before he seriously hurts or kills someone.”
At about 8 a.m. Jan. 4, deputies responded to reports that a white Ford Mustang had barreled down Birchwood Drive, struck a driveway culvert, become airborne and then hit a Nissan Frontier parked in a driveway, according to a Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit. The crash also damaged a fire hydrant.
A witness with a cell phone took photos of the driver and a female passenger as they fled from the damaged Mustang.
Deputies contacted the Mustang's owner, who said her son, 19-year-old Palm Coast resident Jacob Reardon, had taken the car out with his girlfriend. Reardon had been arrested by Staly Dec. 21 on Interstate 95 on a charge of reckless driving and possession of under 20 grams of marijuana.
Deputies reached Reardon's girlfriend's father, who talked to his daughter. The daughter said she'd bring Reardon to her home. When the two arrived, deputies met Reardon and brought him back to the scene of the crash, where witnesses identified him as the driver of the Mustang, according to the arrest affidavit. Deputies arrested him.
Meanwhile, his girlfriend, whose name was not included in Sheriff's Office reports because she was a juvenile, complained of back and neck pain and difficulty breathing. Her family took her to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Reardon is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. Deputies who searched Reardon before taking him to the county jail found cocaine in his wallet and added a charge of possession of cocaine.
