Dorian keeps churning off Florida's east coast toward Georgia, the Carolinas

Hurricane Dorian is still lashing the east coast of central Florida, its 110 mph maximum sustained winds maintaining its category 2 storm designation as it starts moving north-northwest, the National Hurricane Center reported in its 11 p.m. advisory.

Dorian is moving at 8 mph and a turn toward the north is forecast by Wednesday evening, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast on Thursday morning, the advisory stated. Dorian's center is predicted to move near or over South and North Carolina coasts Thursday through Friday morning.

Volusia and Flagler County should expect 3-5 feet of storm surge, as well as 3-6 inches of rain. All bridges over the Halifax River in Volusia County have been closed.

An emergency curfew for Volusia cities and unincorporated areas east of the Halifax River will be in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday, and 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday.

For Flagler, a curfew will be in effect starting 7 p.m. Tuesday for evacuations zones A, B and F until further notice.
