Dinner feeds more than 3,200 people

Volunteers gathered around the serving line Wednesday, Nov. 23, put on their gloves, and were ready to get down to business, at the Buddy Taylor Middle School Team Feed Flagler Community Thanksgiving Celebration.

More than 90 volunteers were present at Buddy Taylor, which was one of 11 locations around the county to be serving an early Thanksgiving dinner to more than 3,200 people. More than 750 boxes of nonperishables were handed out.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 29, a total of $25,000 was raised to cover the cost of the dinner. All proceeds left over will be donated to local food banks.

“Without the true collaboration of so many partners in this community-based initiative, we most likely would have fallen short in one aspect of this event,” said County Commissioner Milissa Holland, who spearheaded the Feed Flagler project. “It was inspiring to watch our residents come together and help each other through these difficult times and give rise to what Thanksgiving is truly about.”
