UPDATE: 1:50 a.m. Oct. 2:
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has released the following news release about the standoff:
On Thursday, October 1, 2015, at approximately 7:46 p.m., the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office received information that a man was threatening to kill himself. Initially, deputies did not know where the man was located in Flagler County.
However, with information obtained from several callers, deputies later learned the man who was identified as Timothy Sturman was in Heroes Memorial Park located at 2860 Palm Coast Parkway in Palm Coast.
As deputies were arriving at the park, Sturman fired one shot from a shotgun he was carrying and fled into the park. He was quickly surrounded by deputies.
Out of an abundance of caution, deputies asked several residents living along Brelyn Place to leave their homes until Sturman could be apprehended.
To help secure the scene, Palm Coast Parkway westbound from Belle Terre Parkway was closed to all traffic by the Palm Coast Fire Department’s Fire Police.
With the assistance of a helicopter from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, one equipped with night vision and a powerful spotlight, deputies were able to locate Sturman in the park and began negotiating with him to surrender.
After witnessing Sturman walk to his car with a shotgun held to his chin, Sturnam refused to surrender and walked into the woods.
After numerous requests for Sturnam to surrender, he finally gave up without incident at approximately 9:58 p.m.
He was immediately evaluated at the scene by paramedics from Flagler County Fire Rescue and was Baker Acted by deputies and transported to a receiving facility. Sturnam was intoxicated at the time he was taken into custody.
During this call, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded to support the investigation. Deputies were also assisted by officers from the Bunnell and Flagler Beach Police Departments.
No one was injured during this incident.

Deputies have detained a man after an armed standoff in Heroes Memorial Park that shut down Palm Coast Parkway the night of Oct. 1.
Deputies believe the man, a former Flagler Beach police officer, may have be suicidal, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Troiano said.
"It is a fluid situation," Troiano said as the situation unfolded. "He's armed with a shotgun."
One shot was fired, and deputies evacuated some buildings in the surrounding area before detaining the man at around 10 p.m.
Heroes Memorial Park was the site of a suicide in October of last year — that of former Flagler County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Delarosby.
