Deputies arrest registered sex offender for living across from church

Jeremy Miller, 30, had told deputies he was living in a tent on State Road 100. Actually, he was living across from the Apostolic Church of God.

Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a registered sex offender for living in a tent across the street from the Apostolic Church of God, at 500 North Pine Street in Bunnell, according to an FCSO news release.

The FCSO received an anonymous tip on May 23 that Jeremy Dwayne Miller, 30, was living in his girlfriend's home across from the church, out of compliance.

Miller had registered a tent on East State Road 100 in Bunnell as his legal residence, and had confirmed that information on June 11. He'd been designated a sex offender in 2006 and was previously convicted of failure to properly register as a sex offender in 2014, according to the news release.

The FCSO's Major Case Unit and Community Policing Division surveilled both the tent on SR 100 and the home at which Miller was reportedly actually residing, near the church. They found that he was in fact living with his girlfriend in the home near the church. When Major Case Unit detectives interviewed Miller, he admitted that he'd lived out of compliance for more than a year, according to the news release.

Deputies arrested him June 21, after Circuit Judge Christopher France issued an arrest warrant.

“It is a felony under Florida law to conceal or harbor a sexual offender not in compliance, or to withhold information from law enforcement regarding a sex offender who is out of compliance,” Sheriff Rick Staly said, according to the news release. “These laws are designed to protect our children and allow law enforcement to know where sex offenders are living to ensure compliance. Thankfully an anonymous person alerted us to this offender and we were able to take him off the streets. He’s in the Green Roof Inn where he belongs.”
