Two state representatives — Rep. Travis Hutson, R-Elkton, and Ronald Renuart, R-Ponte Vedra Beach — have resigned from their positions to run for the Florida Senate District 6 seat vacated by Senator John Thrasher, who has left the Senate to serve as president of Florida State University. Their resignations are postdated to the date of the election.

Senate District 6 represents Flagler County, St. John’s County, Putnam County and part of Volusia County.

Hutson represents Florida House District 24, which includes Flagler County, part of St. Johns County and part of Volusia County; and Renault represents House District 17, which includes northern St. Johns County.

“I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Florida Senate,” Hutson said in a press release. “Like the Senators who represented this area before me – Senator John Thrasher and the late Senator Jim King – I hold a deep passion for our Northeast Florida communities and want nothing more than to see our businesses and community members thrive for years to come,” he added.

Governor Rick Scott announced through an executive order issued Monday, Nov. 10 that primary elections for all three seats will be held Jan 27, and the special elections will be held April 7.
