The Dalai Lama’s nephew was killed along Highway A1A, in Flagler County, when he was struck by an SUV Monday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jigme Norbu, 45, of Bloomington, Ind., was walking along the white line in the same direction as traffic on the southbound side of A1A Monday night, about 15 miles south of Flagler Beach.

It was part of Norbu's “Walk for Tibet,” which was going to cover nearly 300 miles from St. Augustine south to West Palm Beach, according to his group, Ambassadors for World Peace.

The driver of the SUV, 31-year-old Keith O’Dell, of Palm Coast, and two passengers, ages 5 and 3, were not injured, according to the FHP report.

O’Dell was not charged, according to an Associated Press report.

Norbu was dead when emergency services arrived at the scene, the FHP report stated.
