Pinellas County sex offender arrested for loitering near childcare facility in Palm Coast

A registered sex offender from Pinellas County was arrested on Wednesday Nov. 16 for failing to update his address and for loitering in the parking lot of a childcare facility.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called out to 300 block of Justice Lane just before 7 p.m., where a suspicious person was seen walking. The person turned out to be a man who had earlier in the day been trespassed from the parking lot of a childcare facility in the 1000 block of East Moody Boulevard.

The deputies issuing the trespass had not been able to identify if the man was within 300 feet of the facility at the time, according to the arrest report. According to Florida Statute, a convicted sex offender within 300 feet of a place where children congregate is committing loitering and prowling.

The deputies at the childcare facility said in their reports the man was acting erratic toward people who weren’t there. They ran the man’s records and made him leave when they realized he was a registered sex offender, the report said.

When the deputy responding to the suspicious person call — who was aware of the earlier incident — realized the two men were the same person, he confronted the man about the earlier incident, the report said. He asked the man if he had informed either the Pinellas or Flagler County Sheriff’s Offices of his change of address from Pinellas County.

The man had not and was placed under arrest and taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, the report said. The man told the deputy he had been living in Bunnell for six months.

Convicted felon arrested with blank bank notes, gun in his possession

A convicted felon is in the Flagler County jail after being arrested for two felony counts of constructive possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A Florida Highway Patrol officer pulled over a vehicle going 98 mph on Interstate 95 on Tuesday Nov. 15, just after 8 p.m, according to the arrest report. The officer smelled marijuana and called for K-9 backup to search the vehicle.

The driver, a woman, and the male passenger were asked to exit the vehicle, but before the vehicle could be searched, the man told the officer there was a shotgun in the backseat. He told the officer he did not have any felony convictions, the report said.

A background check was run on both occupants and found the man had two felony convictions — one for cocaine possession and one for forged bills, checks, drafts or notes, according to the arrest report.

During the search, the report said the officers found: a blue bag containing shotgun rounds, a cell phone and shoes; a laptop and printer in the trunk; a briefcase with multiple blank, printed checks and multiple debit cards — some with the occupants’ name on them; miscellaneous paperwork with account information; small amounts of marijuana and a grinder.

The shotgun was found in the backseat under several sweaters, the report said.

The woman told deputies the gun was hers. The man said the blue bag was his, the report said, though he told deputies he was unsure of its contents. All the items in the care were seized as evidence for further investigation.

The woman was let go with a traffic citation and the man is currently being held at the county jail.
