The man whose body was found Friday afternoon behind a house on Covington Lane has been ruled a homicide victim.

Medical examiners completed an autopsy Monday afternoon. The identity of the man, whose body was found in state of advanced decay, has yet to be determined.

Examiners were able to determine the cause of death in the case, but will be withholding that information to protect the integrity of the investigation, said Lt. Bob Webber, public information officer for the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

“Any homicide in Flagler County is something we take seriously,” said Sheriff Jim Manfre. “Because we get so few homicides here, it’s something that really affects our community.”

Investigation is underway, and is still in its preliminary stages. The case is being investigated by a four-part collaboration: the Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s crime scene unit, the State Attorney Office’s Homicide Investigation Unit and the medical examiner that is under contract with Flagler County, Manfre said.

The white, middle-aged man was found Friday afternoon behind the residence at 18 Covington Lane and reported to the Sheriff's Office by neighbors.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information about the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477.
