Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a beige Jeep Wrangler struck and killed a Flagler County school bus driver on Interstate 95 in Flagler County early Monday, March 26.

Raymond Almodovar of Ormond Beach, traveling northbound on I-95, was killed after his 2004 Toyota Corolla veered off the highway and struck a guardrail. Almodovar spun back into the northbound lane where he was sideswiped by 49-year-old Port Orange resident John Patrick Manuel, who was driving his 2010 Kia Forte northbound on the highway. A “tan or beige” color Jeep Wrangler struck Almodovar’s car. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene, according to an FHP report.

Almodovar was 68.

A Facebook post by Flagler Schools’ Colleen Conklin confirmed that Almodovar was a school bus driver for the county since 2013, transporting ESE-PI students to Flagler Palm Coast High School, Buddy Taylor Middle School and Old Kings Elementary.

“He was a special soul who handled his job with extreme professionalism,” she wrote.

Anyone with information is asked to contact FHP at *FHP or call Crimestoppers to make an anonymous report at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
