The County Commission hopes to gather elected officials from the municipalities and various organizations and meet with a facilitator by the end of February.

Coordinating the calendars of more than 30 elected officials is no easy task, but the county hopes to find a date for the officials to meet with an outside facilitator to begin discussions about economic development.

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners decided at the Jan. 31 intergovernmental meeting to take the lead in finding a facilitator and setting up dates.

At the workshop Monday, Feb. 7, the members of the commission agreed the meeting should take place as soon as possible, likely by the end of February or in March. It will be a two-day meeting.

The county hopes Don Upton, president of Fairfield Index Inc., will come in as the facilitator.

Upton is based out of Tampa and he hasn’t worked with the county or any of the municipalities before. However, Upton was the facilitator for a recent Cornerstone event, a regional economic development entity and county partner.

“When you’re speaking about economic development issues, there’s a lot of terminology that’s associated with it,” said County Commissioner Milissa Holland after the meeting. “It’s important to have that consistent language.”

Additionally, the commissioners made it clear who should speak at the summit.

All six municipalities, the Flagler County School Board, the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates, Enterprise Flagler, the Flagler County Association of Realtors, the Flagler Home Builders Association, and SCORE all will have a presence at the meeting, and the commissioners also decided that each entity would have two representatives speaking.

Commissioners agreed there needed to be a fair representation of public and private entities.
