Tropical Storm Erika isn't likely to hit Flagler County directly with tropical storm-force winds, but it is expected to bring rain — forecasts predict 5-7 inches — and Flagler County and the cities of Palm Coast, Flagler Beach and Bunnell are offering sandbags.
There are a few days left to prepare.
"We’re looking at the worst weather to be in here anytime from Monday night through Tuesday night," Flagler County Emergency Management Technician Bob Pickering said. "There’s a chance of getting some intense rainfalls."
The storm is disorganized, and the National Weather Service isn't certain it will survive its passage over Hispaniola, Pickering said. If it does, it could strengthen before its expected landfall in South Florida.
But National Hurricane Center tracking as of 5 p.m. Aug. 28 showed the storm passing northward along the state's west coast and weakening to a tropical depression as it moves toward northern Florida. For previous coverage of Tropical Storm Erika, click here.
Locations offering sand, sandbags or both are listed below by municipality. Officials have advised residents to bring a shovel: Sand stations are self-service, according to a Flagler County news release.
