Sept. 13

The messy mystery guest

Burglary from a vehicle. A man went to his storage unit to clean an RV he was keeping there.

Although all of its doors were locked, the man noticed that someone — not him — had partially opened a window in the living area and left two cigarette butts on the living area table.

The uninvited visitor had also left the bed unmade. The man later told a deputy that he wouldn't have done that.

Nothing was stolen.

Sept. 14

Cement theft: The work of hardened criminals?

12:16 a.m. First block of Rymfire Drive, Palm Coast

Larceny. A man was driving past a construction site when he noticed three men carrying bags of cement from the site to the trunk of their car. The man found that suspicious, and contacted the Sheriff's Office.

A deputy who arrived to investigate found a pallet loaded with cement bags. The pallet's plastic covering was ripped, and three cement bags seemed to be missing.

The deputy contacted the contractor working on the site to alert the contracting company of the apparent theft, but there was no concrete evidence of what, if anything, was stolen.
