Two for one

3:33 p.m. Knox Jones Road and Railroad Street. Narcotics.

A deputy patrolling Espanola stopped two young people for walking against the flow of traffic and found that one was a suspect in a school laptop theft and one was carrying a pipe of the type used for smoking marijuana. The boy with the pipe said he was just holding it for someone else, but refused to say for whom. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released at the scene.

Move along, nothing to look at here . . .

1 p.m. First block of Bellmore Place. Burglary.

A Boca Raton woman who owns a home in Palm Coast and visits occasionally to work on it called the Sheriff’s Office to report a burglary. The woman had a break-in about two months ago and removed valuable items from the home, but when she came back on Friday, the lock on the door to the garage had been changed, a closet door in the entryway had broken, and the alarm keyboard and thermostat looked like they had been tampered with. A deputy who was called out to the scene saw the old locks on the ground near the door. No one whose home had a view of the victim’s house saw anything suspicious.

Midnight. First block of Carr Lane. Burglary.

A woman home late at night Friday heard a noise coming from her garage, and when she walked in to take a look, the door knob began to turn. Whoever was on the other side of the door wrenched it so violently the knob was ripped out and the interior working bent.

She called police, and a deputy found the broken knob on the floor of the garage, and then called in another officer who showed up with a police dog. The officers found fresh bicycle tire tracks in wet grass at the back of the home, a BMX bicycle stashed under a palm tree, and then a man hiding behind a chair and a couple of garbage and recycling buckets. Deputies told him to put his hands in the air, had him crawl out, and cuffed him.

A deputy asked him what he was doing out there, and the man said he’d taken Zanax and fled when he saw deputies coming. Wobbling, he said he didn’t feel well. Deputies called a rescue unit and the man was taken to the Florida Hospital Flagler and then to the county jail.
